Welcome to another issue of our weekly bulletin! Below you will find out about future events, our weekly speaker and upcoming duties.
From the President
  • Reminder that 17th February is Golf Day - no meeting that week
  • Auckland South invite anyone to join them at the Imperial Palace in Ellerslie on 25th Feb to help celebrate Chinese New Year.  Amanda has details
  • On 19th Feb there is a popup playground at Ellerslie Race Course
the AGM:
Colin presented the financials for both the Club & the Trust.  Moved they be accepted by Barry / Seconded by David.  Accepted.
Barry spoke about the Trust, suggesting that although it is healthy, there is no point in squandering the money for the sake of it. The President can request money as required, and will generally be granted. The idea is to rotate Trustees through.  There has been some suggestions that an Endowment fund be setup - still being explored by the Trustees.  Any suggestions welcome.
A Constitution change had been circulated - Article 21.  It was moved by Henry / Seconded by Nick.  Approved.
The AGM meeting was declared closed by President Amanda.

This Week's Speaker
John Fothergill introduced Stuart Barnett, Head of Commercial Services at Countdown.
Stuart is in his third year, having taken over from Jacques(who still gets involved).  Stuart has 65 staff, out of a total of some 18,000 staff at Countdown.  Involvement in this Golf Day is a key component of Countdown.  There are 4 key drivers for Countdown's philosophy -
  • Price
  • Act locally
  • Make things easy(i.e process improvements)
  • Love for food
The success of the day is dependent on Countdown's suppliers, some of which are 40-50 yr relationships, including some international ones. It provides an opportunity to have fun, socialise and a way to thank them as well as supporting the community. Dementia are very appreciative of the money raised. There is a focus on ensuring it is a fun day, t network, and to relax.  Rotary also need to have fun, as it is a very long day.

John followed up by reminding us it is Rotary's duty to ensure the whole day goes smoothly so that the last person to go past has the same experience as the first one.  Rotary have the Events Management role - John is like the CEO, Barry the Chairman, Don the CFO, and David the Ops manager.  They have been meeting monthly since August, and every week this year.  We need to act professionally, and ensure we meet the deadlines to get things setup. If anyone has golfing experience, please let David know. This year the team photos will be taken in a booth.
The correct shirts to wear are the dark blue ones with the new rotary logo, and a white stripe across the shoulder.
There will be a note on H&S coming out soon - please read and all are to sign having read it.
