The Rotary Clubs in New Zealand have disaster relief items available for immediate distribution to effected areas within the South Pacific. Rotary ERKs are intended for use in civil disasters such as cyclones and floods in the Pacific Islands, and in particular, to assist families survive the first days after the disaster until large scale aid reaches them. These boxes are produced in New Zealand and stored in New Zealand and throughout the South Pacific Islands and are available for immediate distribution. On receipt, a family will be able to construct a basic shelter, find food from the land and sea, cook and clothe themselves. The emptied plastic containers can hold 90 litres of water. Once or twice a year Parnell Rotary members gather on a selected date to pack Emergency Response Kits in readiness for the next occasion they are needed. These events become quite social with Rotarians sometimes gathering to socialise after the packing is finished. If you'd like to join us as a volunteer contact Phil Gormack at phil.gormack@gmail.com |

Grace Foundation seeks to empower and assist marginalised members of our community to live healthy, sustainable lives. We reach out to people that are truly on the margins of New Zealand society who are unable to access the services and opportunities needed to get ahead in life. The homeless, single parents, children without parents and former prisoners are a few of the people we serve. We provide a holistic approach to healing. Body, Mind and Spirit. We do this by providing health services, education, healthy housing, life skills, fitness and employment training and placement.
The Parnell residence, in the old Strand Hotel, is Grace Foundation's latest edition. Offering a safe shelter and rehabilitation that helps to prepare women for reunification with their families and supporting sustainable lifestyle change. Recently Parnell Rotary has sought ways in which we may be able to support people living in this local residence. The first project was to invite members to donate all sorts of toiletries they may have – unused and unwanted gifts, gifts with purchase etc. Our first delivery the Parnell residence brought sincere thanks from the programme manager and great joy to the recipients. This will be an ongoing project for Parnell Rotary, extending the range of donated items as they identify their requirements. |

Since its inception, the Habitat Curtain Bank has cut, sewn and re-purposed thousands of curtains enabling hundreds of families to live in warmer healthier homes. Heating a home is difficult and sometimes costly for many families. Research shows that well fitted, double lined curtains are effective at reducing heat loss. This not only helps keep a home warm and healthy, but also greatly helps with reducing energy bills. Many families, particularly those living in rental properties, cannot afford to buy good quality curtains. The Habitat Curtain Bank provides free pre-loved curtains to low- income whānau in the Auckland region. Parnell Rotary puts out calls (from time to time) inviting the public to offer their pre- loved curtains to this valuable programme. Members will arrange collection and delivery to Habitat. |

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
Members of Rotary Clubs in Auckland have participated in and annual `Ride a Train to Enable Others to Walk Challenge’ on 1st November each year from 8am-6pm.
Starting from Britomart Station, the ‘Tag You On Tag Polio Off’ Rotary fundraiser has celebrities including politicians, business leaders and corporate head honchos hopping in and out of the train on different stations to help raise funds for End Polio Now Challenge. |
