This is yet another issue of our weekly bulletin! Created with the appropriate number of epithets, curses and assistance from the Ever Loving.  There will be inadvertent spelling mistakes, praise and all sorts of things jsut to ensure that you read the whole thing! 

This was another  Zoom meeting as Auckland is still imprisoned (oops, Freudian slip) locked down.

President Phill opened the meeting at 7.34 (it's easy to put in exact times when you staring at a computer)

 

Future meetings: We have to assume that the lockdown will continue until our warders allow us out thus until further notice the meetings will be via Zoom. The meeting will start at 7.30.The Zoom codes will be circulated on Tuesday. 

 

Ingrid Rotary Leadership Institute. (RLI) This annual event this year will take place with three Zoom meetings  and a one day seminar. It's more discussion based rather than talking heads so all participants have a chance of connecting with other Rotarians to transfer useful information and enhance leadership skills. Guess who's coming to dinner: Reluctantly the events Committee have had to cancel this fun event as it would have taken place when we're not allowed out.

 

Light entertainment: Don C recommended an Amazon TV programme, Jeremy Clarkson's Farming Stuff, insightful and amusing. 

(PS If you have any suggestions for TV based entertainment or other good,  mainly legal) lockdown pastimes send them to me so they can be passed n to other members. )

 

Subscriptions: Treasurer Don S reports that two thirds of members have ponied up, which is great - as we've got nothing else to spend money on the other third can afford to pay! 

 

Duties: Other than next week I've not allocated people to 'door' duties as it sees a wee bit redundant. Optimistically those duties have been allocated for 8th September (fingers crossed!) 

The speakers: Some times we have speakers who really know their stuff and what they know is interesting and useful. Although the title was "Bullying" that was only covered peripherally. The key message from Craig Strobo, chairman of Precinct Properties, was that leaders  need to exercise 'soft skills' be knowledgable of their team members personal attributes to enable all of them to make a valuable contribution to their team's tasks. 

In passing he did supply a definition of bullying, 'unequal behaviour which leads to undesirable outcomes'. 

Dr Ann Shivas (a Canadian, came here just before last year's lockdown and now, fortunately for us, wants to stay) added that there are six 'personality' types. She helps her clients identify their own type and enables them to be more sensitive to others, and how it affects their behaviour thus their contribution to the team's output.  

I will not attempt to paraphrase what the two speakers said in detail; you should have been there. YHC found it fascinating, and useful - he will look at you all very differently in the future! 

 

President Phil closed the meeting at 8.26am.
