President Phil opened the meeting at 7.32 am
Notices:
Golf Maestro Barry reported that due to delays at Countdowns end, some caused by the lockdown, and the uncertainty of what level we'll be at in the 'traffic light' system of restrictions there will be no golf tournament in 2022. Passing note - Barry's done a hell of a lot of work in the last few weeks trying to get the tournament on the road so although eventually his efforts came to nothing his work need to be appreciated.
Ingrid:
The water tank project that we were involved with in Fiji earlier in the year is now complete thus ensuring that the village will have a supply of potable water even after a hurricane.
Rotoract are using their international connections to create a zoom meeting on Saturday evening focused on removing plastics from the Pacific. Contact Ingrid for details.
Interact (this is our sponsored club ) has invited President Phil and Ingrid to their next meeting to discuss how we can work together. As the club wants to extend its activities into the community this is an opportunity that should be grasped with both hands.
Phil: The club (along with others) will fund Epsom Lodge's Christmas celebrations.
Don S The club has donated $1,500 to the Sallies (Salvation Army for you Kiwis who didn't buy War Cry in London pubs of a Friday night) and made a donation to the Auckland City Mission.
Party, party party! Phillippa has circulated details of a bit of a knees up (English expression, sorry, education will out!) Wednesday Dec 1 - Kinder House., 5.30pm Garden party - this might be the only time that we can get together this year and comment on everybody's hair style, or even let it down. It will be fun - naturally YHC will be there so both my readers can comment on style (and accuracy)!
Speakers: Phillippa introduced Kate Williamson, boss of the Defib Store, and trainer Stef Wareham. Kate described how her firm has supplied and installed many defibrillation systems across the country, many in conjunction with Rotary clubs.
The key point that she made (and this was reinforced by Stef) was speed. If a person collapses with chest pain or feeling very unwell assume the worst! Call an ambulance (these take at least 8 minutes even when there's very little traffic) and get busy.
To access defibrillation equipment you need an access code. This can be obtained by calling 111 and giving the location of the equipment. The access code for 'our' defib. equipment in Heard Park, Parnell Road, will be circulated later.
Survival rates reduce by 10% every minute after the heart attack. When a person collapses firstly check if they have a pulse - if not do not panic, think before action! The equipment has full instructions in the case. Just follow them! And, don't worry, you can only do good, the equipment is so designed that it can not do any harm.
Use CPR, 100 chest presses a minute, depressing the chest about 5 cms. Ideally taking two minute turns with another person.
An enlightening contribution from Kate and Stef.
President Phil closed the meeting at 8.43.
There is no meeting next Wednesday morning - just the knees up at Kinder House at 5.30 - see you there! YHC
