Volume 29 | Issue 10

14th September Year of our Lord 2022
Sargent David  opened the meeting at 7.30.
There were 18 members present.

Apologies:  Greg. (It's interesting that it's the busiest people who have time to apologise.) If you want to put in apology for absence tell YHC at nickhamnz@gmail. com.

Club announcements;
Peter D reported on arrangements for our Wednesday 5th meeting at Christine Fernyhough's home. This is cocktail party, with finger food and wine plus the opportunity to socialise and to see Ms Fernyhough's art collection. The address is Highpoint, Lvl 8, 119 St Stephens Avenue, starting at  5.30 pm. As the club needs to raise funds for its charitable activities the the cost will be $50 per person or $90 for a couple. Paid into 12 3109 0110290 02 wirth Cocktails as the subject and your name.
(PS There will be no meeting on the morning of the 5th) Invite your friends - we need the loot!

Don C reported that there is Volunteers' Expo at
the Netball Centre, 7 Allison Ferguson Drive, St Johns. About 40 voluntary organisations will be there between 10am and 2.00 pm. You and your family can explore other  community service activities.

Colleen reported on behalf of the board that as attendance has dropped wer now have to increase the breakfast fee to $25 from 12th October. (That sum will make it easier for the person on the door!)

Sargent's session
"Although I was born visible I now identify as invisible. I am transparent. My pronouns are who/where".
PS David gave me his notes YHC could get that quote right. That man works hard for our dollars!

Three minute speaker:
Peter Don told us of the 'invasion ' of New Zealand by American marines in 1943, designed to save us from the advancing Japanese forces. Over 45,000 came. They were given a booklet on how to relate to the civilian population from which he quoted. Fascinating.

Club meeting:

Phillippa: The club has to grapple with the fact that as a result of losing the golf tournament this year's budget shows a deficit of $7,000. The club has about $70,000 in reserves so it's not an immediate problem but plans have to be made for us to increase our income.

Don C rescribed a mental health project in which the club could become involved. He is doing further research and will come back to the club with a definite proposal.

Currently the club is involved in over 15 different projects. Many of these are 'one member' projects, (Eg Book in Homes, Trees for Survival, Curtains, etc) so thought needs to be given to ensuring that the club supports them over time.
