Our Speaker this Week   -  Swami Tadananda Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission at SARADA Medical Clinic in Fiji    -   The Ramakrishna Mission has been running the Sarada Medical Centre in Nadi since mid 2012 and has seen about 25,000 patients to date. SMC is a day care out-patient service with two doctors and a nurse and provides charitable medical services to the poor and needy. In mid-2015, a similar clinic was started in Suva close to the densely populated Jittu estate squatter settlement. With free health screening programs etc. the daily patient numbers began to gradually increase to around 20.

Fiji's Mobile Medical Clinic  -  Volunteer's to form a base committee needed.  Ingrid is formatting a plan, so if you would like to be part of Building the Mobile Bus, please let Ingrid or Peter Barron know.  The refurbished Tranzit Coachlines bus that was built in Masterton for the Rarotonga community, is a model which will be used for Fiji.  They need early intervention and to build resources for early stage prevention ie/ diabetes.   One in every three Fijian is diabetic and there are two amputations every day. The situation is getting worse; affecting the productivity of the nation and causing social challenges with more orphans and widows.  Please read below under the STORY Content for more information.

Ingrid and Peter received some great news regarding the following:-

The District has pencilled to give us USD5000 from our 9920 District Designated Funds.  When we apply for the Global Grant, we will then be able to apply for the subsidy.  You don’t get anything until you apply for the Global Grant.

How a Global Grant works:

The project must be worth a minimum of US$30,000. There must be 2 partners – a Host Rotary Club (Nadi) and an International Partner (Parnell).  The International partner applies to The Rotary Foundation for a Global Grant to help with the funding of the project.  It is also their responsibility to manage the project and budget, to ensure the Community Needs Assessment is done prior to applying for the Grant, and to report at all astages, including after completion..

When getting money to fund the project it can come from any source, but there are benefits in getting money from Rotary Clubs and from Rotary Districts.  If the money is from a Rotary Club, The Rotary Foundation will match it 50 cents for every $1.  If the money comes from a District – say our District has pencilled in $10,000 –The Rotary Foundation will match it $1 for every $1.  So we need to be going to other Districts to ask them to donate their District Designated Funds for this project, as well as working with other clubs.

Peter Barron  spoke on ROMAC's job opportunity for a Operations Manager for its Auckland based activities and is seeking a Rotarian to take up  the role.  The primary role of the Operations Manager is to organise and manage the logistics of getting ROMAC patients from the Pacific Islands to New Zealand for treatment, which would be very rewarding avenue of service for a Rotarian.  This role is part of the NZ Regional Committee with members who are supportive and have roles integral to the Operations Manager role. Generally, a commitment of between 7 and 14 hours per week may be required to fulfil this role, occasionally longer when uploading data and information into the ROMAC database and reporting.   If you are a Rotarian looking for a way to contribute directly to the objects of Rotary and are interested to find about more about this role please email NZ Region Chair Glenys Parton at newzealand@romac.org.au for a Role Description.

Your Duties Role

David's reminder  - if you cannot do your duty on the selected day, it is your responsibility to find someone else to fill the role and let David know.  Thanks.
