Changeover - one of the ceremonial meetings of the year!
There were seventeen members present plus numerous partners (wives, girlfriends, husbands, lovers, etc.) plus Alan Smith, president of Rotary Club of St John's and DG's rep (or whatever they're called now)
President Phil opened the meeting at 7.40 pm.
Apologies: A number had been received but weren't announced.
Phil's year:
President Phil gave a brief summary of the past year's activities. He started by reminding us that the club's objectives were to be effective and have fun. He thought that despite covid, inflation, Putin's invasion of Ukraine and the government (YHC added the last three for a bit of variety) that the club had had a reasonable year.
The transition team (Henry, Phillippa, Don, Colleen) had been working hard to extend Parnell's reach into the younger community.
Barry, despite being unable to attend regular meetings, had finalised discussions with Countdown, confirming the end of the annual golf tournaments.
Avis had created a relationship with the Grace Foundation.
Ted and Phillippa were commended for the excellent programme that they had organised.
In all ten members were named as making specific contributions to the club.
Phil also announced that the Board had nominated Avis and Don C for Paul Harris Fellowships.
Chain of Office:
After this summary President Phil passed the Chain of Office to Incoming President David.
President David then thanked Past President Phil for his work during the year.
President David then spoke to the club. Barry would be pleased - David got of to an excellent speech - all 43 seconds of it!
The names of club officers for David's year will be announced next week
Reasons for membership;
After the formal part of the meeting members and friends ate, drank (sponsored by the president! that man will go far!) and chatted. This part of the meeting lasted for well over an hour and was noisy; confirming Past President Phil's comment that one of the club's objectives was for members to have fun.
