President Phill started the meeting by banging on the Rotary bell ineffectually with a knife. Eventually the gossipers stopped gossiping.
Present: 17 members
Apologies: Had been received from the Dons (nothing to do with the Mafia) and Ingrid

Welcome to yet another issue of our weekly bulletin! There will be deliberate insults, praise and all sorts of things - just to ensure that you pay attention.
Duties
Duties are allocated to members in a, by and large, alphabetical basis. From time to time you will be allocated a duty that either you can't do or you're not that enthusiastic about. It's your responsibility to arrange for a replacement and tel the president.
This was written a couple of weeks ago. It was emphasised by the president so remember the four way test - is it fair if you don't come?

President's Announcements
In the recent Trees For Survival event 746 trees were planted - a contribution to the billion trees in a decade!
The Rotary Zone Conference will take place on 11th and 12 September.
Ted and Phillippa are responsible for arranging speakers. They will be inviting members to 'tell their stories'. See below for notes on how to speak confidently!
Three Minute Speaker Peter Don told of us of
being given the afternoon off from Auckland Grammar to see the MCC play New Zealand at Eden Park. Unfortunately the MCC slaughtered New Zealand, having them all out fro 26. Amongst the players MCC were Cowdrey (Kent) Tyson (Northants) and May( Surrey). Your humble correspondent's claim to fame is that he bowled out Peter May, one of the finest batsmen of his generation. He came to School to see The Goon ('Head' in the formal sense) and passed a group of us playing in the nets. He asked for a bat and faced us bowlers. By sheer coincidence each one of us were able to claim the captain of the MCC's wicket!

Sargent's session
All and sundry were fined for various alleged misdemeanours; and everybody was able to laugh at everybody else's expense - and to the benefit of the Sunshine Fund!  Best line: "Life is like a box oc choclates. The fatter you are the shorter it lasts"
Last Weeks' Speaker
The speaker
Gaye Stratton told us how to speak confidently. She started with a story (as all good speakers do) and used it to illustrate what her consultancy does. Her firm delivers courses to schools, organisations and conducts public courses. She made the excellent point that being able to speak confidently in public can boost self esteem, especially amongst the young. Much of her work has been in low decile schools  enabling her to quote some of the feedback that she's received , with a common theme being, "This gives me the chance to stand up for myself". In conclusion she called upon various members to spend 30 seconds describing an animal that she named. Members had never heard of most of the animals and a few members were genuine in their confusion. Bullshit artists (like YHC) could easily blather on - perhaps over confidentially!
