David J gave early warning that Trees for Survival planting would be on Saturday 27th July.
Sargent: Had his usual collection of well researched and amusing quotes.
He's been in the role for two years and in that time has raised bucket loads of loot for deserving causes. That man deserves a medal - or at least a Paul Harris Fellowship for all his hard work and humour.
Three minute speaker: Peter was able to give us a good news story. Recently he'd had problems with his eye sight. He's now had an operation and can see clearly now!
Guest Speaker
Ingrid told us of the recent RI Convention in Melbourne that she had attended. There were 15,000 Rotarians there including many young people.
The Rotary movement is expanding significantly in India and Africa with this expansion offsetting the decline in Europe and America.
We were told that in NZ District 9930 (which covers Hawkes Bay) has spent $100,000 on flood relief. (It's a pity that there is no publicity for that!). After 30 years Rotary in conjunction with the WHO and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have nearly (very nearly, but not quite) eliminated polio in the world. Only 10 cases to go and then three polio free years and we've done it!
For more details on the convention go to https://convention.rotary.org/en-us/about/past-and-future-conventionsgoto
That's all folks. After two years YHC is handing over control of the bulletin to others. You will notice the improvements from 4th July!
