President Phil opened the meeting at 7.32 am
There were some notices!
Phil reported on the ERKs project. The club had 9 members involved who contributed to the 600 units packed. A shout out to the Ellerslie Club which made a huge contribution.
Barry has been in touch with Countdown but progress is hampered by the lockdown restrictions however it has been conformed that the club's contribution on the day itself would be very similar to the past.
Sue gave a well prepared introduction to our speaker DG Steve Cheney.
Steve introduced himself in te reo, much to the surprise, and incomprehension of two members (we are getting old and conservative!)
He reminded us that our district 9920 has 36 clubs in New Zealand and a further 18 on various Pacific islands. He also said that our adjacent district 9910 has been told by RI that they have to increase membership to at least 1200 or it will have to merge with other districts. There is on- going discussion about 'redistricting'.
He repeated the standard DG's message, membership, membership, membership! At least there was a new slogan, "Each one bring one" with an emphasis on increasing the number of female members, with a target of 50%. (Eds comment: Dumb target - does that mean that some clubs could be 100% female? The target should be at least 40 % of each gender!)
There are a number of specialised District conferences and training programmes which, it is hoped, can take place in person. Further details will be made available nearer the time. On 26th Feb. there will be the Auckland wide fund raising for the Polio elimination campaign on the buses, trains. ferries. The District Conference will be 24/25th June at Te Papa, Wellington. Once again, details to follow. (As my daughter lives there it's just possible the Ever Loving and YHC could go!)
Steve had some good words for Ingrid (thoroughly deserved) and told us that Parnell is a great club - nice to hear!
This is our 9th Zoom meeting. When we go to meetings we pay $22 plus whatever our excellent (and currently absent!) sargent extracts from us. Last Saturday would have been the "Guess who's coming to dinner" fundraiser, at $30 a head That means that each of us have saved about $230! Equally the club has not been able to raise funds for many of our projects / charities. So how about a tax deductible donation of $100? The club's trust account bank number is
12 3109 0110290 02
Put your name in the appropriate slot so Don can send you a receipt for the tax thieves.
President Phil closed the meeting at 8.28.
Next week's meeting: AGM. When we can be told what the club has (or hasn't) achieved plus plans for next year. See you there!
