President Phil opened the meeting at 7.33 am
There were some notices!
Barry reported that there had been a meeting of the trustees last night.
It had confirmed that $4,000 has been allocated to science students and that $5,700 put aside for the club's activities, this is the 2021 replacement from the normal golf day profits and won't be repeated next year.
Countdown have confirmed that the beneficiaries of next year's golf day will be KidsCan.
Henry was introduced by Ingrid (the first time that the 'introducers I've listed actually was able to do their job!) Henry's a Mainlander, with experience in farming and banking before he became a financial advisor.
Henry has found that many of his older clients have sufficient assets to last them out so what they're looking for is quality rather than quantity of life. When you're in your late 70s and 80s your expenditure goes down (YHC disagrees with that, especially as the price of wine keeps increasing!) Henry is now able to comment on quality of life.
He divided his comments into five sections:
1. Connections - avoid loneliness, be social, retain (or restore) old friendships (attend Rotary meetings!)
2. Be open and curious - and be grateful for all the good stuff, continue to learn, expose yourself to new experiences.
3 Exercise - this is not only good for physical health it is also good for mental health. High intensity interval training is good, or walking in the countryside. (During our period of imprisonment YHC has been walking around the neighbourhood, and filling in a map of where he (and the Ever Loving) have been. It provides a wee bit more interest to what otherwise could be dull repetition).
4 Eat well - the normal advice, what should be well known by now, olive oil (especially from Waiheke according to Ingrid!) green vegetables, oily fish and less processed food. There was no comment on drinks so grape based ones should be OK!
5. Sleep - especially deep sleep. It 'de-frags' your brain. If you're 65 plus you still need 7-8 hours. If you are sleep deprived you will want more sweet stuff!
In summary, good, sensible, easy to follow advice. there were various comments from members - including a sleep device from Colleen, you had to be there!
President Phil closed the meeting at 8.36.
Next week's speaker : the DG so all present and correct - possibly best clothes (well, what can be seen on Zoom anyway!
