A Will Rogers quote, "Never ignore a good chance to shut up".
Three minute speaker
Steven Fleming reminded us of the advice that we were given when crossing the road when we were young, "Look right, look left then look right again then cross the road". As drivers we see what we want to see -when making a manoeuvre on the road double check that there is space. He was recently involved in two driving incidents which reinforced this advice. As we mature (that's a nice way to say - get older) we need to take this comment seriously!
Guest Speaker
Peter Don reminded us of coronations past. He had memorabilia from Queen Elizabeth's 1953 coronation and George VI's coronation of 1937. As Peter had grown up in Empire Rd, Mt Eden and an elderly relative was a passionate royalist he had a collection which included coronation editions of the Auckland Star and various coronation magazines and scrapbooks. He also had 2,910 page edition of Burke's peerage which he circulated. A member looked in vain for her entry in it !
His presentation lead to a vibrant discussion on the future of the monarchy in NZ! There was a agreement that by and large it was good thing!
