Welcome to yet another issue of the club's weekly bulletin!
11 members were present including debate speakers who paid for their meals.
Apologies; Ingrid, Phil, Malcolm and Rory
(holidaying in the USA).
President's announcements: Stand in Pres, Peter Barron thanked all members who attended John Waugh's funeral on Tuesday.
3 Minute Speaker was Gregg Behrens who presented a 3 minute 20 second Power -Point picture show on the major natural wonders of his country. Yellowstone Park, established 1872 covering 3 states, the Doubles Tower, Mt Rushmore in the Black Hills, the Crazy Horse memorial, the Badlands of Dakota, and Niagara Falls on the Canadian border.
What was as interesting as the pictures was his commentary which he had crafted in a few minutes using Chat GPT-(amazing.)
Sargent Wendy: presented a "very scrappy" session,(her own words) despite it being Collin's (not significant) birthday-fined us for the Warriors and the Silver Ferns loosing, complimented Nick on being a snappy dresser and passed round photographic evidence of David's annual Lawyers Golf tournament at Palmerston North where many members seemed to be sleeping at the main function which seems to have been at a bar. Raised about $155.
Debate between advocates of Cars v motorbikes as to whether the bikes were just noisy toys.
David came well prepared defending bikes with an appropriate Italian motorbike T shirt and the tactical thinking of a lawyer meaning his debate kept precicely to the motion, whereas Stephen may have been more humorous but generalised a little on the advantages of cars over motorbikes (the original topic before it was modified by Nick at a late hour).
After a point of order asking that those with a car or a bike should not vote (over ruled by the chairman) David won the debate by one vote.
Nick was very pleased with the result of the exercise and is threatening to arrange another!
Reminder from Avis that next week is the first of the month and we should bring toiletries or dollars to support Grace Foundation.
