Requests

Can someone take over Jim Hight's role on the 3rd October, (if  he hasn't already been in touch with anyone), to take over his role, he will be away in lovely Italy.

Just a "nudge" to all members to check each week to see when you are rostered for meeting "duties".

Following the Presidents request last week  -  You must find a replacement and notify the President if you are unable to perform your rostered duty.   Out of our 4 duties this week, only 1 role had been reallocated, the remaining 3 roles were left with no arranged replacements for those people listed for their duty.  Thank you to those who stepped in at short notice.

Notices

Avis gave us an update on Kurt Brunton following an email she received from Sue.  Sue thanked the club for our wonderful donation, which has gone via the Give A Little page".  We donated $2,000 towards Kurt's recovery program.  Kurt has been accepted into the program in Boston, which is wonderful news.

Our Volunteer  at Parnell Rotary  for the Shelter Box co-ordinator is Rosemary Hambling.  Thank you for taking up this responsibility Rosemary, much appreciated.

OUR SPEAKER today  -   Alan Gray, who is the Urban Planner at Auckland City Council's design office.  Alan gave us a brief on what is on the councils Agenda for the CBD's growth and development over the next 20 years.  This ranges from improvements and catering for the 150,000 people visiting the CBD every day.  Taking into account what form of transport can move people around and into the city in the most efficient way, from walking, biking, busing, trains and cars!   Alan gave us some stats surrounding the increasing number of pedestrians across the city - 34% since 2010 and 41% increase in Cafe seats within the shared space streets.  This has brought on a different management strategy and companies making changes to when their deliveries are made, so there is no confliction between delivery vehicles and pedestrians at peak times, ie/ lunch time.

Alan also shared what is planned for the downtown development surrounding improvements for Cruise Ships and the up and coming America's Cup event.  Plus more.

INGRID' S recent visit and Farewell to TASMANIA   -   Launceston's Club Newsletter of Ingrids talk to them  -   Ingrid Waugh visited Launceston en route to Hobart to attend the Australia / NZ Rotary Conference.  We also now have a new Club banner from Launceston.

District 9920 is a geographic area covering half of Auckland and the Pacific nations of Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoa, Kiribati and Tonga plus the territories of French Polynesia and American Samoa.  It is the largest maritime district in Rotary. There are 53 clubs in the District, a third of which are in the Pacific. Total Membership in the District is 1430.

Ingrid was a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Parnell, Auckland in 1994. She has been a Director, Secretary and President at club level. At district level Ingrid has served as an Assistant Governor, District Trainer and Rotary Leadership Institute Chair.

Ingrid has retired from a career in HR. She has lived and worked in several countries as she supported her husband’s international trade career. Ingrid’s husband John also attended the meeting as our guest. Ingrid spoke about her role as Governor in a very diverse region and about the numerous very important projects being undertaken in D9920. These include the dengue prevention and eradication in Fiji; funding 4 dialysis machines in Apia, Samoa; sending hydroponic kits to Kiribati and the construction of a walkway around eastern Auckland, signposted as Rotary.

The RC of Parnell organises the annual Countdown Supermarket Suppliers Charity Golf Day to support Alzheimers Auckland. Over $143,000 was raised this year which was the 13th running of the very popular event and bought the total funds raised to more than $1.5million, thus assisting more people with dementia and their careers to live well.

Members welcomed the opportunity of meeting Ingrid and very much enjoyed her talk.

POLIO Day  -  24 October  -

An FYI  -  Funds from the Sunshine Fund will be donated to Polio on this day - we are trying to capture as much under the Bill Gates 2 for 1 scheme.

and a carry on  for POLIO is  -

End Polio Now(EPN) movie night  -  from Gary Langford - DGE
I wanted to reiterate that clubs or clusters will need to book arrangements directly with the movie theatre you choose. In my previous email I attached group booking arrangements for a selection of theatres to give a guide on pricing and arrangements clubs will need to make. You may also approach theatres in your local areas if that is more convenient.

The Movie opens on the 1 November however some clubs are looking to hold their movie night on a different date.  As a suggestion you may wish to consider arranging the movie night as an alternative to the normal club meeting. That’s a great way to get a good attendance and provide some variation to the usual weekly meeting format.
