Our Speaker this week Sara Hamlin from Upside Downs Education Trust - Sara's support role is to give a voice to kids with Downs syndrome. The Upside Downs Education Trust provides self funded lending for Speech Language Therapy for children with down syndrome. The ages from unborn's up to 18 years of age. They currently support 150 children in NZ. 1 in every 3000 babies are born with Downs. Why is speech Therapy important? The benefits of teaching a child with Downs to communicate and speak via speech and language therapy is the most important part of the intervention service that can be provided if we wish to promote their cognitive and social development. Today, 80% of kids with downs, learn to read, write and communicate by speech or sign, which has life long positives for them. They have a greater chance of employment and increases their ability to socialise. How can we support - Give by One Percent Collective, direct via the website - www.upsidedowns.co.nz - Or Just Tell people about Upside Downs Education Trust and how they help these great kids.
