The members who delete  the bulletin without reading it are in for a big, huge shock - read it to the end!  Plus - note duties have been rearranged!

There were fourteen members present, what they lacked in numbers they made up in quality!

Apologies were received from Ingrid (at Mt Cook) Ted (presumably still at Langs beach) Don S, Henry (very busy) Avis and Rory.

President Phil opened the meeting at 7.35 am

President's notices
Barry reported that Ingrid's husband John's recent medical feedback suggests things are going in the right direction. Chemo will continue.

Keep this date clear: Our tree planting efforts at Kepa Rd will continue on
Saturday 19th Feb. starting at 9.30 am. the entrance is just over the road from  the petrol station, there is ample parking - and there will be a picnic!   Just bring yourselves - no equipment required. YHC went to the last 'plant', it wasn't particularly hard work, it gave a sense of achievement and engendered good camaraderie - what more could you want - see you there!

The club has to make a decision on what to do / how to store the golf day equipment. Currently the storage costs about $2,000 per annum. It was agreed that the club would pay for a further six months storage and consider our options during this time.

ERKs. The members who've been involved in packing them will be pleased to know that 850 have been shipped to Tonga to assist the people who've lost everything as a result of the recent volcanic eruption and subsequent tsunami.

Sargent's session
David drew upon current events, Zoe's gold medal (for) Queen Consort Camilla (against) and various other headline grabbers.

Three minutes speech.
Last week Malcolm exceeded the three minutes but his efforts were trumped (can one still use that expression?) by Greg.
His three minutes was expanded to a full speaker's slot.
Covid 19.
Greg started with a disclaimer - this is not medical advice! Any comments which are made are accurate only coincidentally! (Rather like YHC's bulletins!) Despite that a lot of research had gone into his comments.
He contrasted New Zealand's experience with that of the US. In essence - we've done much better than the Yanks.
In the States there has been about 925,000 deaths, in NZ 53. Adjusted for population sizes that's about 350 per million in the US contrasted with 10 per million in NZ. To be vaccinated or not is political in the States, in very generalised terms, Dems are vaccinated Republicans aren't.
In general discussion it came out that Spanish flu (which originated in Kansas) was a lot more severe than covid, that the latest variant omicon 2, so to speak, seems to be even more transmissible  than omnicon 1, the present version.
An interesting and informative discussion.

Now,  all you new readers of the bulletin there will be no meeting next week. No 'in person meeting', no zoom meeting. Nixt, nada, nien, nowt!

So see you at Kepa Rd on Saturday 19th at 9.30.
